Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, officers were called to a home in the 8900 block of Hanson Grove Court in Manassas to conduct a welfare check, where they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds in the basement area of the residence.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A person of interest has been detained in New Jersey who is presumed to be connected to the incident, according to a spokesperson from the Prince William County Police Department.

It is believed that they knew each other and the incident does not appear to be random.

No charges were obtained as of 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, police noted.

"Detectives are actively investigating the incident to determine what led up to the shooting and are seeking to speak with anyone who has information to aid in the investigation," the spokesperson noted.

Information about the victims is expected to be released amid the ongoing investigation.

This is a developing story.
